Freie Wahllehrveranstaltung: 3 ECTS-Credits
Angaben zur Abhaltung
Within the Interdisciplinary Forum we provide a platform to discuss ethical aspects of scientific research and sustainability issues, linkages between them, and prospective fields of cooperation.

The series is a mixed form of lecture and seminar where introductory talks of established researchers from the University of Cologne, working in the fields of environmental physics, ressource management, and international law, lead to a broad discussion between all participants across the different fields.

The 2023 series focuses on social and environmental implications of technological developments, starting from the current hype around quantum computing. As quantum computing could have a huge social and environmental impact we try to combine the two directions: 1) Quantum computing - chances and risks 2) Environmental ethics of human activity.

All lectures will be given in English language.

The participants will critically judge the importance of their research in the context of social and environmental implications and learn about practices and hurdles in interdisciplinary research.

To obtain the credit points students will need to provide a contribution covering at least two of the discussions of the series, focusing on the commonalities. The contributions can be a written essay, a literature review or a poster. In all cases the discussions need to be put into the context of the overall topic of sustainability and the contributions should focus on interdisciplinary aspects. The contributions can be provided in interdisciplinary groups (max. six people) or individually.

For all students that are just interested in the lectures and the discussion sessions a participation is always possible without KLIPS registration. An acceptance as a regular participant is only needed if credit points are aimed at.
