This is an advanced course for the field of parties and party systems at the MA level. The course will cover fundamental analytical questions: How did political parties emerge? Why do they matter? How do they work? Are they still relevant? After introducing the concept of political party with reference to its roots, the detailed analytical framework will be provided on party models, party finance, intra-party democracy, party change, party families, parties and social cleavages, party ideologies, anti-establishment parties, party-states vs. partyless states, party systems, and the future of party politics. |

A good knowledge of general political science concepts, theories, and basic quantitative and qualitative methods is required. Students should be able to understand and articulate themselves in English as the medium of instruction will be English. |
