Couplings
We will investigate selected topics from [Tho00] (which can be chosen in accordance
with previous knowledge of the participants) concerning couplings of probability distri-
butions. Couplings amount to one of the most seminal and useful tools in probability
theory, and they find applications in almost all areas of probability theory. While often-
times couplings are simple to construct, they have powerful implications. Presumably
the biggest difficulty is to find the right coupling for a certain situation, which can be
somewhat of an art.
The seminar is aimed at BSc as well as MSc students.
In order to obtain the corresponding credit points, participants have to give a presentation on one of the available topics and actively contribute to the discussions of the remaining presentations. |

| Participants are expected to have mastered the lectures "Einführung in die Stochastik" or "Wahrscheinlichkeitstheorie I". |
|

Presentations can be given in English or German. Here you can find some advice on
how to prepare a valuable seminar talk which you should take serious. |
